Kenya's rapidly rising population is increasing pressure on water supplies for drinking and food production. Nearly half of sub-Saharan Africa doesn't have access to safe drinking water. Your volunteering can help transform people's lives before exploring and spotting the big 5 on safari through one of Kenya's stunning game reserves. After your project, you have the option to summit Kilimanjaro, the world's highest free-standing mountain.
Digging? Mixing? Carrying? Shovelling? Sand dams and water tanks are much needed to provide the local communities with a year round water supply. Learn the basics of the Kamba language by working alongside the community on this unique experience in overseas development work. Get a real taste of Africa by living and working alongside the Akamba people. Sustainable development at its best!
It's not all hard work though! As a reward you will have the chance to spend a long weekend off on safari in Tsavo National Park, spotting some (or all!) of the "big 5". Other weekends will include cultural visits to Maasai communities to discover their unique way of life and a community homestay (where possible). Follow up your weeks in Kenya with an optional six-day climb to the summit of the majestic Kilimanjaro.
"I particularly enjoyed the home-stay as it was such an incredible experience to be welcomed into a local family and see how they lived on a daily basis."
Stuart Manning - Kenya Project 2011
Take on the ultimate challenge and climb the highest mountain in Africa. You will have two weekend treks to prepare for the climb while working on the project. The climb will take 6 days and will be led by highly experienced guides through varied terrain to summit at 5895m on Kilimanjaro's snowy peak. The climb will push you to your limits but you will be rewarded with an awe inspiring view from 'the roof of Africa'!
The perfect way to finish off your incredible time in Africa.
“If you are deliberating the Kilimanjaro climb, do it! The most amazing experience of my life.”
