The 2012 Quest Malawi Summer Team landed in Lilongwe on Saturday and have already made the journey down to their project site in Chimwemwe. Chimwemwe is a bustling village only 6kms from the centre of Blantyre, Malawi’s commercial capital. Here the team will be working alongside our registered charity parnter, Joshua Orphan & Community Care to ensure that the existing Community Based Care Centre (CBCC) provides a safe and secure environment for children.
Currently local children under the age of 5 attend the CCBC each day, where they are provided with a nutritious meal and a basic nursery education, however the centre is in need of maintenence work and the site needs to be enclosed with a boundary wall to ensure it is a secure environment for the children. At present the Centre’s land is used as a cut-through by local people, making activities difficult to organise and manage. This is where the Quest team will come in. Alongside their construction work the team will also be working with the established Youth Group in Chimwemwe and will be organising a number of educational and sporting activities for local children of all ages.
