Malawi Gappers – Trekking and Tree Planting

Quest News

Thanks again to our Malawi Gappers for aqueezing in time for an update, between tree planting and mountain hikes!

“Saturday was an early start. We walked down to Nancholi primary school and awaiting us was 130 trees to plant.  We worked with the local children and the youth group to plant the trees. This is all thanks to ‘one for every mile’ who donated the trees.  Despite this number we planted them in about an hour and  half, and the heavens opened to water them in.

Sunday morning we woke up at 4:30am to tackle Mount Michiru.  The climb wasn’t easy, we managed to get up and down in 6 hours.  We kept ourselves positive my watching Elspeth fall on her bum every 5 minutes, one fall we have on video.  We are now prepared to take on Mount Milonje next week.

We are in the last week of our project, we finished painting the wall surrounding the feeding centre; it has really brightened up the place, we have been asked to paint the rest of the wall as the locals keep commenting of how nice it looks, but time has run out!  We cannot wait to start exploring Malawi but we will be sad to say goodbye to all the people we have become friends with here in Nancholi. BYEEEEEEE for now”
