Introducing Joe, our very own Quest Leader and Volunteer Cordinator in Malawi, “the warm heart of Africa, where thew land is so hot”
Tell us about your role with Quest…
“I started working with Quest in 2007 with the first team in Pensulo Village, as a youth group leader and link between the volunteers, local youth and community.
What drives you to do this job?
“I find it very rewarding as its all for good causes – Helping out in Communities by building feeding centres where children come for a porridge meal and attended some basic lessons, building playgrounds where they can play safely, organising sporting events for the local youth groups and Quest volunteers and supporting needy families”.
What’s the best thing about being a Quest Leader?
“My favorite thing about leading with Quest is
that I get to travel a lot, meet new people and do cool stuff like take the
teams scuba diving in lake Malawi. It is always very sad when the teams
leave, and a really special moment for me was when the 2011 team left, and I
cried”.
Last year, Joe left Malawi
for the first time to participate in Quest Staff Training in the UK. Tell us more…
“The
best thing about my visit to the UK was eating the Bangers and Mash and of
course meeting up with past Quest volunteers. Oh yes, and going from pub
to pub!”
Pictured above is Joe, all bundled up, catching up with some of his 2011 Quest Malawi summer team, and below, what would a UK visit be without a jolly on Brighton Pier?
What are your hopes for the future of Malawi?
“Malawi is a beautiful country with a friendly atmosphere and the warmest people. I hope for a brighter future with greater food security for everyone, and HIV/AIDS treatment that is free for all people”
Zikomo Joe!
