Hillary Clinton the US Secretary of State has headed to Africa to complete an 11 day tour of Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Angola, Liberia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The aim is to highlight the Obama Administration’s commitment to making Africa a priority in U.S. foreign policy.
Top of her list are meetings with new South African president Jacob Zuma and President Dos Santos of Angola a country that’s emerging as one of the continents largest energy producers.
She also looks to address the issue of gender-based violence in Congo which has recently been torn apart by civil strife.
It will be interesting to be see if the continent will warm to her as much as the President whose popularity (in part thanks to his Kenyan connection) seems relentless. On a recent trip to Tanzania I managed to pick up a lovely Obama bag with the presidents face on!
